Ask any graduate about what job they are doing, and they will say that the job market is doesn’t look too good. They are probably looking in the wrong place. From package delivery to food service, the US has the largest range of industries that are currently employing more than a million employees. The numbers change every year and competition is always fierce.

We bring to you the ten US employers that are currently at the top of their game. The statistics for this article have been gathered from numerous sources including Forbes Magazine, Statista, and Wikipedia. Most of the companies mentioned have global footprints and are still battling to maintain their position on the “Top 10” list. Let’s begin:


Number of Employees: 2.3 million

Last year, Walmart reported that it had gone above the $500 billion mark in revenues. The company is in fact the largest revenue holder in the world and is even on the list of Fortune Global. The number of employees working at Walmart makes it one of the biggest private employers in the world. It has more than 11,700 stores, with around 5,350 of them in the US.


Number of Employees: 613,300

Amazon is at the 8th number on the Fortune 500 list. It holds total revenue of over $1 billion. With the rapid increase in interest of online shopping, Amazon is right at the top and is in fact, the largest online retainer in the world.

United Parcel Services

Number of Employees: 481,000

There was a time when UPS and FedEx had the same number of employees. However, this packing and shipping company came at the top in 2018 and since then, has maintained a leading role. It holds total revenue of $65,872.


Number of Employees: 449,000

After Walmart, Kroger is the second largest supermarket chain that has around 2,700 grocery stores in 35 states. It holds total revenue of $122, 622.


Number of Employees: 425,000

The overnight shipping service provided by FedEx rivals that provided by other shipping companies. UPS and FedEx have a strong competition and you will find that both companies offer a unique service. It holds total revenue of $60,319.

Yum! Brands

Number of Employees: 420,000

Yum! Brands is a company that operates several American fast food joints such as Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, WingStreet and KFC. These restaurants are spread in 135 countries throughout the world. Around 1,500 of the restaurants are company owned and 43,000 are franchised. A rough estimate of the number of restaurants opened in several countries includes 5,600 of Taco Bell, 6,500 of Pizza Hut and 5,000 of WingStreet. It holds total revenue of more than 6.366 billion

The Home Depot

Number of Employees: 413,000

The Home Depot is located in all fifty states. The stores are even spread throughout Canada and Mexico. In total, there are more than 2,200, with 1,980 in the US. It holds total revenue of $100,904 billion.


Number of Employees: 380,000

IBM has its fingers in many pots and holds quite a number of patents than any US business. The company has been credited for inventing the hard disk, ATM, SQL programming language and the magnetic stripe card. It holds total revenue of $79,139.

Berkshire Hathaway

Number of Employees: 389,373

Berkshire Hathaway is the holding company of Dairy Queen, BNSF Railroad, Pampered Chef, GEICO and Fruit of the Loom. It also holds major stock in Kraft Heinz, as well as other companies. It holds total revenue of $242,137.


Number of employees: 375,000

Say it with us, “I’m Lovin’ It”. This fast food joint has above 37,000 locations all over the world. Regarding revenue, it has the largest revenue of about $22,820.

And that’s it… the top 10 employers in the US that are not only leading in the industry but are also generating great revenue.
